Rapper says he had to turn down future King's offer of an ice cream
Tinie Tempah had to snub Prince William‘s offer of an ice cream when he met the future King, because he didn’t want to take his last Solero.
In an extract from his book My Story So Far published in The Sun, the rapper also reveals how he cringed when he met the Prince and his wife Kate Middleton because he was “so sweaty”, and that he also embarrassed singer Ellie Goulding in front of the royal couple.
The south Londoner, who met the couple backstage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Bangor, North Wales, writes: “William was really dressed down. Kate looked gorgeous in a nice dress. He put his hand on my shoulder and I cringed. I was so sweaty, like eurggh.
“He made a little joke about my trousers being so low, saying he thought they were going to fall off halfway through my performance and said he loves going to festivals but he goes incognito.”
The rapper, whose double-platinum album ‘Disc-Overy’ was nominated for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize, added:
His aide came out with a box of Soleros and there was only four in there but there were five of us in the room. William offered me one and I was like: ‘No thanks’. I didn’t want to deprive the future King of his Solero!
He also went on to reveal how he introduced Prince William to Ellie Goulding, who performed at the Royal Wedding reception earlier this year (April 29), revealing: “By the time Ellie Goulding came off stage from her set, we were still talking. Ellie put her arms out to give me a hug but I directed her towards William instead.
“I was like: ‘You can’t shake my hand before you shake his!’. She went so white.”
Tinie Tempah will release his autobiography ‘My Story So Far’ on October 13 through Ebury Press. Speaking about the tome, he said: “I really wanted to tell my story of how I did it, the highs and the lows, the false starts, the people I’ve met along the way, the artists that have inspired me and the sheer determination that it’s taken for me to accomplish some of the incredible achievements that I’ve been fortunate to experience over the last 18 months or so.”
