Tom Waits is set to perform a new track tonight (May 14) on Late Show With David Letterman.
The appearance will be Waits’ last on the programme, which is due to come to an end on May 20.
The singer has appeared on Letterman 10 times previously. He made his debut on the show back in December 1983.
Of his final appearance, Waits said: “I don’t know when I will see Dave again. I guess from now on we’ll have to settle for bumping into each other at pilates.”
The show has been a springboard for many established and new artists over the years.
Meanwhile, a Kickstarter campaign was recently launched to raise the funds for a Tom Waits ‘illustrated scrapbook’.
The book will document the making of the 1979 ‘Tom Waits For No One’ short film. The film was animated by John Lamb using rotoscoping, it has been labelled as one of the first music videos of its kind.
It will also feature 160 pages of “animation cels, rotoscope drawings, character studies and backgrounds… documenting the artwork and inspiration behind Tom Waits For No One”.
‘Tom Waits For No One: The Illustrated Scrapbook’ will be limited to 250 copies.
