Tool drummer reveals release date of band’s long-awaited new album

It's finally happening...

Tool‘s long-awaited new album is finally set for release this spring, the band’s drummer Danny Carey has confirmed. Check out the clip below.

Earlier this month, frontman Maynard James Keenan revealed that the follow-up to 2006’s ‘10,000 Days‘ was in the final stage of mixing. The LA band’s upcoming fifth LP was initially expected to arrive in 2017 but faced numerous delays.

Now, Carey has been pressed for updates by a fan during an autograph signing in California this weekend. Asked if there was any news on the record, the musician replied: “Yeah, it’s gonna be out in mid-April. That’s the plan, anyway.”

Elsewhere, a figure close to the band, Gabriel Shaffer, has taken to Instagram to tease that he’s heard the album in full.

“All I can say is I heard something from start to finish, that a number of us have been waiting to hear for over 10 years now,” he posted. “I can confirm it is worth every bit of the wait. The main question is are we worthy of it?” Shaffer signed off with the #tool hashtag. See that post below.

Back in February last year, Maynard James Keenan said that “Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1 [track]” for the album.

Keenan has previously blamed the long wait for the album on his bandmates’ indecisiveness. “I like to release records and write things a little more quickly than those guys like to write,” he said. “Their process is very analytical.”
