The band play a song with their hero Graham Nash...

TRAVIS surprised fans in MANCHESTER earlier this week when they welcomed onstage rock legend GRAHAM NASH during their encore.

The singer joined Fran and co. at the end of their triumphant set at the city’s Apollo on Monday (March 8) for a rendition of Nash’s classic ‘Another Sleep Song’.

Travis‘s Healy introduced Nash as his “hero” before announcing the song as “a tune written in the year I was born, 1970”.

Nash, who found fame in The Hollies and then Crosby, Stills And Nash, responded with a good spirited raised middle finger and hearty “f*ck you”.

Virtually turning their backs on their audience in order to watch their idol, Travis provided the backing to Nash’s lead vocals and piano on the track, which appears on Nash’s 1973 solo LP ‘Wild Tales’.

The collaboration came about after the band bumped into Nash in Manchester’s Lowry Hotel the previous night (March 7). The rock legend invited Healy to an exhibition of his photo gallery, which led to an impromptu sing-song around a piano.

Healy then invited Nash to join the band onstage that night.

To watch the full story of Nash’s interest in photography and his visit to his native Manchester for the exhibition, tune into ‘Behind The Scene’, to be shown on 11pm on ITV1 in the Granada region (March 15).
