Trent Reznor has praised Donald Glover, saying he is “significantly blown away” by his “thing”.
Nine Inch Nails released a new album on Friday (June 22) called ‘Bad Witch’. It is the third part of a trilogy that began in 2016.
Speaking to journalist Lizzy Goodman in an interview on the band’s official website, Reznor said: “I’m significantly blown away by Donald Glover’s thing. I mean, I think Atlanta‘s fucking genius. That’s won me over, this guy’s smart. I’m watching Community. I listened to a couple Childish Gambino things and it wasn’t what I was expecting.”
He continued to discuss Glover’s recent ‘This Is America’ video, which he recently tweeted he had watched five times in a row. “I just thought, ‘Jesus Christ, man.’ I thought the song was great, but it was better than if I’d just heard the song. I didn’t know what I was in for. It was bold [and] daring for a number of ways. And you can appreciate, the dude can dance, too?! Jesus Christ.”
Of Atlanta, he added Glover has “taken advantage of the fact that television is hot right now” and has done “something excellent in a network format.” “I’m impressed,” Reznor said. “I find myself playing it for people, like, ‘You’ve got to fucking see this.'”
Meanwhile, Reznor recently revealed David Bowie “helped [him] see the light at the end of the tunnel” in the mid-90s. Nine Inch Nails toured with the late icon in 1995, and being around Bowie helped the frontman with his issues around addiction.
Last week, the musician also called out “the Taylor Swifts” of the world for caring more about their brands and success than speaking out on important issues such as politics.
