Police charge Tulisa with playing part in the supply of Class A drugs

Pop star charged following an investigation by tabloid newspaper

Police have charged pop singer and former X Factor judge Tulisa on suspicion of playing a part in the supply of Class A drugs.

The Crown Prosecution Service today confirmed that Tulisa, full name Tulisa Contostavlos, will face prosecution following a police investigation in June. The N-Dubz singer was arrested following tabloid newspaper reports that claimed she was involved in an £800 cocaine deal.

A statement from Baljit Ubhey, CPS London Chief Crown Prosecutor, issued today (December 9) reads: “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Tulisa Contostavlos, 25, with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. This charge relates to an investigation by The Sun newspaper between early March 2013 and 23 May 2013 which resulted in the supply of Class A drugs to an investigative journalist.

“This decision to prosecute was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors. We have determined that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest. Ms Contostavlos will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 19 December 2013.”

Back in June an undercover reporter working for The Sun On Sunday recorded what is believed to be Tulisa saying that “half her phone book” had access to drugs and that she would introduce their reporter to a drug dealer. This introduction was allegedly then made, with the undercover journalist filming himself paying £800 for half an ounce of cocaine.
