Chance The Rapper hits out at Tumblr for hypocrisy in banning porn but not ‘murder’

He says he sees people murdered 'every day'

Chance The Rapper has slammed Tumblr’s decision to ban pornography, claiming violence still remains rife throughout the site.

The social media platform has a reputation as often being a hub for explicit and pornographic materials, but this week revealed a reversal on its policy.

“Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts,” they said in a statement. “Examples of exceptions that are still permitted are exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery.

“Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.”

However, Chance said that this wasn’t enough, claiming that he regularly sees violence and murder on the app every day.

“They banning nipples on tumblr but I’m seeing people get murdered graphically every day on this app,” he wrote on Twitter. “Like real snuff videos, non related to police shootings. Wtf yo.

“That shit honestly terrible for my mental and fucking up how I value human life.”

Meanwhile, Chance surprised fans last week when he dropped two new tracks on his Soundcloud, the MC’s first new material since July.

The first track, ‘The Man Who Has Everything’, finds Chance at his most reflective, while ‘My Own Thing’, which features fellow Chicago rapper Joey Purp, is contrastingly joyous. Check them out here.

In the summer, he was spotted in the studio with Kanye West, with the two apparently working on a ‘joint album’.

In September, Kanye and Chance spoke at a high school in Chicago, and revealed that the record is to be titled ‘Good Ass Job’, although a month later Chance admitted that work had actually yet to begin.
