Two Door Cinema Club: ‘Reading And Leeds crowd blew us away’ – video

Alex Trimble also reveals he's backing Azealia Banks to have the anthem of the summer

Two Door Cinema Club have spoken about their slot at this summer’s Reading And Leeds Festivals.

The Northern Irish trio, who are currently recording their second album, will perform below headliners Justice on the NME/Radio 1 Stage on August 26 (Sunday) at Reading Festival and on August 24 (Friday) at Leeds Festival.

Speaking to NME in a video which you can see by scrolling up to the top of the page and clicking, frontman Alex Trimble said of how the band were feeling about the slots they’re playing at the festivals: “I’m very very excited. We’ve played it the past two years in a row and there’s something about those festivals. The shows have been such fun and we’ve played such incredible shows both years to such amazing crowds.”

Trimble also spoke about the band’s first experience of playing the festival in 2009 and said that the experience “blew them away”. Speaking about this, he said: “The first time we played, I think it was Reading and I just blew us away. Our album hadn’t been out for that long and people were chanting our name before we even came on the stage, which was something that had never happened before and there were even people outside of the tent trying to cram it. It was like nothing we’ve ever experienced before and that memory will live with me forever.”

Trimble also tipped Azealia Banks‘ ‘212’ to be the festival anthem of the summer and confirmed that his band’s second album would not be released in time for the shows.

Asked if he thought one of his band’s new songs could be the festival anthem of the summer, he said: “The second album’s not until after the summer, so maybe not one of those, but I think Azealia Banks’ ‘212’ will be huge at festivals. It feels like it’s been track of the year so far.”
