U2 performed an acoustic version of their track ‘Ordinary Love’ at the Academy Awards last night (March 2) – watch footage of it above.
The track, which appeared on the soundtrack of the Nelson Mandela biopic Long Walk To Freedom, was nominated in the Best Original Song category. It was up against Karen O’s ‘The Moon Song’, taken from Spike Jonze’s Her, Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’, from Despicable Me 2, and ‘Let It Go’, from Disney’s animated hit Frozen, which won the award.
Other musical performances on the night came from Karen O, who performed ‘The Moon Song’ at the ceremony accompanied by Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig. Click below to watch.
Gravity dominated last night’s Oscars after taking home seven awards. The sci-fi drama was the big winner at the 86th Academy Awards, with Alfonso Cuaron taking home the Best Director prize and a host of other gongs including Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Original Score and Editing.
The Best Picture prize went to Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave. The film, which is based on the memoirs of Solomon Northup, also won Best Adapted Screenplay while Lupita Nyong’o was named Best Supporting Actress.
Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, while Dallas Buyers Club picked up two acting awards: Matthew McConaughey won the Best Actor prize, while his co-star and 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto took home the statuette for Best Supporting Actor.
