U2 play three new songs at first gig since Bono’s back injury – video

Irish band premiere a new song called 'Glastonbury' at Turin gig

U2 played three new songs at their comeback gig in Turin last night (August 6) – performing for the first time since Bono injured his back in May.

Among the new tracks was a song called ‘Glastonbury’, which you can watch below now. Before Bono‘s injury, U2 had been due to headline the Somerset festival. They were replaced this year by Gorillaz, although festival organiser Michael Eavis this week confirmed that he has asked the Irish band to headline next year’s event.

Other new songs aired by U2 at the Stadio Olimpico venue included acoustic ballad ‘North Star’ and a live intro called ‘Return Of The Stingray Guitar’. The band also got the audience to pay tribute to guitarist The Edge, who celebrates his birthday tomorrow (August 7), by getting them to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.

Other songs in U2‘s set included ‘Miss Sarajevo’, originally released by the band’s alter-ego act Passengers, and 1995 single ‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me’ which they have not performed live since 1998. They also played a snippet of ‘Discothèque’ after ‘I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight’.

As the below video of ‘Glastonbury’ shows, Bono was in energetic form during the gig, suggesting he’s had a positive recovery from his injury.

As well as their Glastonbury appearance, U2 postponed their entire North American tour due to the injury.

The band are now set to play Frankfurt‘s Commerzbank Arena on Tuesday (August 10).
