U2 joined onstage by punk legend

Well, anything REM can do...

U2 were joined onstage by punk icon Patti Smith during their show in New York earlier this week (November 21).

The two joined forces for a version of John Lennon’s ‘Instant Karma!’ in the encore at Madison Square Garden.

Smith also appeared onstage with R.E.M earlier this year, performing ‘E-Bow The Letter’ with them in London’s Hyde Park.

U2, whose US tour goes on till December 19, also played a snippet of The Clash’s ‘Rock The Casbah’.
