The tome will cover the band's amazing 25 years...

U2 are planning to release a full-colour career-spanning book in 2005, which according to one publisher will “show the band not just in the context of a rock band, but as figures in world culture”.

‘In The Name of Love: U2 by U2‘ will coincide with the release of the band’s tenth studio album, as well as the 25th anniversary of Bono and co.’s first record, ‘Boy’.

Proposals for the book have been touted around publishers for the past few weeks and include pages of text, photos and illustrations. Also included are previously unseen photos of the band throughout their career.

According to MTV News, Jim Henke is one writer being considered for the publication, following his insistence in 1985 that his bosses at Rolling Stone magazine put U2 on the cover with the headline ‘Our Choice – Band Of The 80s’.

Other material expected to appear in ‘In The Name Of Love: U2 by U2‘ include early rejection letters from record labels, extensive notes by producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois made during recording sessions, as well as handwritten lyrics.
