A rare photograph of U2 has fetched over £8,000 at auction.
The black-and-white shot, taken by the band’s semi-official photographer Anton Corbijn, was taken in 1982 and went for 12,000 euro (£8,284) when it was auctioned in Dublin yesterday, according to the BBC.
It depicts the band standing in a field with tall grass stalks rising above their heads.
Jane Beattie, head of the fine art department at James Adams & Sons auctioneers said: “We believe it to be the earliest photo of the band by Corbijn to reach the auction market to date.”
Corbijn met the band in 1982, and took the cover photographs on all of the band’s album’s from 1987’s ‘The Joshua Tree’ up until this year’s ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’.
