Bono has revealed that the band are looking towards playing two headlining shows at the 80,000 plus capacity Slane Castle.
Speaking to the Irish Sunday Mirror yesterday (February 11), the singer said that they felt one outdoor extravaganza, confirmed for August 25, was not enough.
“It doesn’t seem right just playing one gig in Ireland,” he said. “We’re thinking, though it’s not allowed, of playing two Slanes. I don’t know [if] that’s ever been allowed and I don’t know who would have to give us permission – probably the good people of Slane.”
Bono added that the thought had arisen because his wife Ali is expecting their fourth child in June, and he doesn’t want to be away on tour too much. However, he concluded that it still may not be possible to add an additional date as “we’ve got a tight tour”.
Robbie Williams, The Verve and REM have all headlined the castle in recent years.
