You can hear your favourite UK garage classics like never before at DJ Spoony’s new event

The legendary DJ is giving some old favourites an interesting makeover

DJ Spoony has announced Garage Classical – a night of UK garage classics performed with a twist.

The DJ is credited with bringing garage to a mainstream audience via his radio show, while he was also a resident DJ at UK garage club night Twice As Nice for seven years.

Garage Classical will see the 36-piece Ignition Orchestra recreate hits like DJ Pied Piper And The Masters Of Ceremonies’ ‘Do You Really Like It?’, Artful Dodger’s ‘Please Don’t Turn Me On’, ‘Call It Fate’ by Richie Dan, and more. The event will take place at London’s Barbican Hall on July 21, and will see the vocalists from the original tracks sing alongside the orchestra.

DJ Spoony and composer and conductor Katie Chatburn have put together a set of 20 garage anthems for the night. In a press release, Spoony said: “There are literally thousands of garage tracks out there, but the most important thing for me was choosing those that would sound absolutely brilliant when performed by an orchestra. I also really wanted the original vocalists to stand up there on stage and perform alongside them.”

The first Garage Classical night debuted at the Liverpool International Music Festival 2017. It featured appearances by the likes of Kele Le Roc, Sweet Female Attitude, So Solid Crew, Artful Dodger, and more.

Tickets for the London event are on general sale now, and are available from the Barbican’s website
