Vampire Weekend’s Chris Tomson announces solo album, ‘Youngish American’

Tomson is going by the name Dams of the West

Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson has announced a new solo project, Dams of the West.

Tomson will release his debut album, ‘Youngish American’, under the alias later this year.

Black Keys’ Patrick Carney has produced the record alongside Tomson and Roger Moutenot, who has previously worked with Yo La Tengo and Sleater Kinney in the past.

Ahead of ‘Youngish American’’s release, Tomson has shared a video for its first single ‘Death Wish’, directed by his wife Emily Tomson.

Tomson is not the first member of Vampire Weekend to work on solo projects. In January, guitarist and keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij departed the group to pursue a solo career and has shared a number of singles since. Bassist Chris Baio also released a solo album in 2015.

Vampire Weekend are reportedly currently working on their fourth record. Earlier this year, Baio told NME that the group were preparing to start recording.
