Vampire Weekend‘s Rostam Batmanglij is set to write the original music for a new Broadway production of the 1996 play, This Is Our Youth, starring actor Michael Cera.
The production of the Kenneth Lonergan play will also star actor Kieran Culkin and fashion blogger and Rookie website founder Tavi Gevinson. The play will initially open in June at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company before transferring to the Cort Theatre in New York in August, writes Hollywood Reporter.
The play – which follows 48 hours in the life of three young New Yorkers in 1982 – will be directed by Anna D Shapiro. It will run until January 4, 2015.
Meanwhile, Batmanglij has also been working with Charli XCX on her new album. Charli XCX’s debut album, ‘True Romance’, was released in April 2013 and she also wrote the track ‘I Love It’, which become a smash hit for Icona Pop.
Speaking to Complex the singer and songwriter said she hopes to release her next record this year, adding: “I did a session with Rivers from Weezer, which was awesome, and I did a session with Rostam from Vampire Weekend. Just loads of stuff that I want to do for myself. I know everyone says this about records they make but this is the best thing I’ve ever done.”
