Vampire Weekend forced to cancel only show of 2011

Inadequate sales for New York festival

The inaugural Music To Know festival, set to feature bands including Bright Eyes, Ellie Goulding and Vampire Weekend, has been cancelled.

The weekend event was due to begin in New York on Friday, but poor sales meant the first attempt at the East Hampton-based festival had to be halted. The organisers were quoted as saying:

Despite our unique vision and arranging a world-class line-up, ticket sales were not adequate to allow the event to continue

The festival was set to mark Vampire Weekend‘s only show for 2011. It is not known whether the cancellation will inspire a replacement gig.

Speaking about the decision to cancel the festival, a spokesperson for the company, Michelle Fox said, “Unfortunately, the ticket buyers weren’t there. You have to make a choice.”

The last tweet by the band reads, “Excited to play @MTKFestival 8/13, E Hampton, NY- get your tkts b4 they sellout at! #mtkfestival – USE DISCNT CODE: TESSA10”

Earlier today, the Isle Of Wight Festival organiser declared the festival market in the UK as “saturated”.
