VAN MORRISON is to play an exclusive outdoor gig in the grounds of a 16th century country pub in WILTSHIRE.
Landlords Gary and Sarah Jane Marlow have spent £37,000 on staging the August 3 concert at The Crown in Everleigh.
They have sold 600 tickets but need to sell another 400 to break even.
Mr Marlow, 43, said: “It’s taken two years to get him. He is very pedantic and very choosy, but it will be worth it. It is a bit bizarre, having him at this pub in Wiltshire, but it’s very, very cool and will be a very personal night.”
Mr Marlow said he has already had a three-page list of demands from the singer and his eight-piece band, who’ll take over most of the pub and restaurant.
It is not the first time the 16th century pub has hosted a famous name. Last year the Marlows persuaded former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green to play there. It cost them £18,000 and made no money.
Mr Marlow added: “We’re just a country pub, people have to drive here just to get a pint. We can’t just sit around, we have to do something a bit special to get people to notice us. But if it works, who knows? The sky’s the limit. Robbie Williams next perhaps?”
