VAN-TASTIC DAY!

Talks, tours and a tribute concert? Might even make the man himself raise a smile...

VAN MORRISON is to be celebrated with a special day of talks, tours an exhibition and a tribute concert in his native BELFAST.

The event, being held on May 5 as part of the city’s Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, will include a two-hour tour of the city’s sites associated with Morrison, which kicks off at 12 noon and is hosted by journalist Stuart Bailie. The city tour is outlined on the Irish music website

[url=]www.ohyeah.net, and film footage of the sites visited – will be put on the site on the day as a “virtual” tour. The sites include his old high school Orangefield, mentioned in several of his songs, Hyndford Street, where he lived with his parents George and Violet and which is featured on the artwork for the album ‘Hyms To The Silence’ and is also namechecked in several songs, and Cyprus Avenue, made famous in the song of the same name and whose avenue of trees features in several of his lyrics

The tour is followed by a seminar themed “Van Morrison – Made In Belfast?”, with experts, writers and journalists participating, with an exhibition of photographs being hosted by photographer Alistair Graham, showing landscape pictures associated with the art of Morrison.

The day ends with a tribute concert featuring musicians from Dublin and Belfast, including Nick Kelly (formerly of The Fat Lady Sings), David Kitt, The Keepers, at the John Hewitt Bar on Donegall Street.
