FAIRFAX, CA - DECEMBER 18: The Instagram logo is displayed on an Apple iPhone on December 18, 2012 in Fairfax, California. Users of the popular photo-sharing app Instagram are angered over language in Instagram's new terms of service that states that a business may use any of the users photographs in advertising without compensation to the user. @Music designed to encourage community participation
Instagram has unveiled a new dedicated music account under the handle @music that will highlight musicians, music photographers, album artists and fans.
It marks the first time the photo-sharing app has ever launched an account focusing on a single subject. @music will also encourage community participation with music-themed monthly hashtags.
Writing via the account’s first post, Instagram founder and CEO Kevin Systrom described the music community as an important part of the social network: “For the past four years, we have become the home for artists big and small – a place where people across the musical spectrum come to share stories, reveal their creativity and connect directly with fans,” he wrote.
“Each week, we’ll take a look at the musical experience on Instagram. That means showing you a different side of artists you know and love.”
The first official post featured a photo and quote from The Roots’ Questlove, who took a snap of the crowd during one of his DJ sets, discussing in the caption how he works a room.
