Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister launches bid to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2016

Katia Aveiro, 38, wants to compete in the televised singing competition

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s sister has launched a bid to represent her native Portugal in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The footballer’s elder sibling Katia Aveiro, 38, recently expressed her desire to participate in the televised singing competition. “Eurofans, I’d love for you to support me in representing Portugal in Eurovision, it would be a dream!” she said on Twitter.

The Daily Mirror reports that Aveiro is currently working on music with producer RedOne, who has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.

Aveiro will hope to improve her country’s recent record in the contest, with Portugal failing to qualify for the final stages in each of the last five years.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will take place in Stockholm next May after Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw won this year’s contest in Vienna, Austria with the song ‘Heroes’. Zelmerlöw’s win was marred by allegations of homophobia following previous comments he had made about same-sex couples.

Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo denied reports that he was set to be managed by rapper Lil Wayne. It had been reported that Wayne would represent the Real Madrid and Portugal player through his newly created sports management company.

However, this was denied by Ronaldo with with a tweet from his official Twitter account stating that: “There have been news about changes on my management team – it’s all false, and I can assure the team is – and will be – the same.”

Ronaldo has also previously claimed that Oasis are better than The Beatles. The football star told reporters in 2009: “Liverpool have The Beatles and Manchester have Oasis. I think we [Manchester] have the better band.”
