Security thought the producer was trying to break into the VIP section
Kanye West collaborator Evian Christ has been detained by Leeds Festival, after security staff believed he was trying to break into the VIP area following his set on Friday.
It’s unclear how long the Ellesmere Port-based DJ and producer was held, but he tweeted a short video from inside a Leeds Festival holding pen, following his afternoon DJ set on the BBC Radio One Dance Stage.
The producer – best known for his work on Kanye West’s Yeezus track ‘I’m In It’ – also tweeted that his Reading Festival set is cancelled, though that has not yet been confirmed.
The hashtag #freeEvian started doing the rounds on Twitter, with the DJ continuing:
“Really though, actually got put in a cage at a festival headlined by Mumford and Sons because the festival staff didn’t believe I was a DJ and thought I was ‘trying to break into the festival’ after my set.”
Evian Christ is due at partner festival Reading on Sunday evening, where – assuming he does turn up – he’s due to play the same Radio One Dance Stage from 16.55 to 17.50.
Reading & Leeds organisers Festival Republic are yet to comment on the incident.
