Kasabian thanked Cotton for her support over the years, calling her “the real deal”, while Sam Smith said that he would miss Cotton’s “sweet voice in my ears every day”. Twin Atlantic labelled Cotton “an iconic woman of radio” and Zane Lowe tweeted Cotton saying that she “played a blinder”. See a collection of tweets from famous music stars below.

The host of the daily mid-morning show joined Radio 1 in 2005 and leaves after a decade at the station. Cotton wrote in February regarding her departure, “It has also been a time of big decisions and one I want to share with you now. After much time and careful thought I have decided to leave Radio 1 after 10 amazing years. I have had the most incredible decade broadcasting on Radio 1, meeting wonderful people, helping break artists and watching live music from the world’s best. However it is now time for a new chapter.”

Fearne Cotton’s departure is the latest big change in Radio 1’s line-up following Zane Lowe’s exit in March.
