Midweek Chart Update also finds One Direction dominating the Album Chart
The Band Aid 30 single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ looks like a certainty for the Number One position in this week’s Official UK Singles Chart having sold over 250,000 already copies this week.
The charity single, which features vocals from Bono, Chris Martin, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Jessie Ware and Paloma Faith among others, was established as the fastest selling single of 2014 so far on its first day on sale this week.
The new version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ has been recorded to raise money to help combat the spread of Ebola. It has already raised £1million since going on sale Monday (November 17), according to Sir Bob Geldof.
This is bad news for Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne, whose new single ‘Real Love’ is a new entry at Number Two. Other new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart at today’s midweek stage include Olly Murs (3), David Guetta (5), Wretch 32 (8), Rixton (9), 5 Seconds Of Summer (14) and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (17).
Meanwhile, One Direction are also on course to be Number One in the Albums Chart with their latest album ‘Four’ outselling the rest of the Top Five combined.
Official Chart Company data shows that the album has sold 94,000 copies so far this week, making it one of the fastest selling albums of the year so far. ‘Four’ is One Direction’s fourth album and the follow up to 2013 record ‘Midnight Memories’.
There are a further seven new entries in the Official Chart Top 40 starting with Bette Midler, who is at Number Nine with her new album ‘It’s The Girls!’. Other new entries today come from Alfie Boe (10), Katherine Jenkins (11), Bryan Ferry (14), Michael Ball (17), Shirley Bassey (20) and Daniel O’Donnell (22).
