Lil B saved from apartment building fire by a teenage resident

Firefighter hospitalised after being injured by a falling tile

An electrical fire broke out in the apartment building home of rapper Lil B on Thursday morning (January 15), spreading throughout the two-story complex in Contra Costa County, California.

The BasedGod was unharmed, however, when, as reported by Fader, 15-year-old resident Mateo Ysmael ran through the building to wake everyone up. A firefighter was later hospitalised after being hit on the head by a falling tile.

“I’m grateful to be alive,” Lil B told local paper The Contra Costa Times. “If that kid didn’t come knocking on my door…”

“I’ve got to thank the Contra Costa Fire folks for doing such an amazing job keeping it contained,” he added. “They were extraordinary. It could’ve been so much worse than it was. Like I said, I’m grateful to be alive.”

On the night of the incident, Ysmael awoke in his upstairs bedroom to see flames coming through the wall. “I just ran and got my stepmom, and told her I thought the place was on fire,” he said. “Then I went and got my little brother and my two sisters. We got out of there quick. Then I pounded my neighbour’s door.”

Lil B – real name Brandon McCartney – has since taken to Twitter to post a photo of the burning apartment building and has asked fans to send donations to via PayPal.
