Midweek chart update: Noel Gallagher at Number One with new album ‘Chasing Yesterday’

New entries also come from Kelly Clarkson, Steve Wilson, The Shires and more

Noel Gallagher is Number One in the Official Album Chart at the midweek stage with his new album ‘Chasing Yesterday’.

The album was released on Monday (March 2). Official Chart Company data reveals that the album is Number One at today’s midweek stage, ahead of the current Number One album by Sam Smith (‘In The Lonely Hour’) and Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’.

This week’s highest new entry so far comes from Kelly Clarkson who enters the chart at Number Six with her new album ‘Piece By Piece’. Other new entries in this week’s Official Album Chart at today’s midweek stage include Steve Wilson (7) and country duo The Shires (9).

The Shires strong sales place them in contention of becoming the first British country band ever to score a UK Top 20 album.

Meanwhile, in the Official UK Single Chart, Ellie Goulding‘s position at Number One is being challenged by Years and Years (pictured right) and their single ‘King’, which is new at Number One and currently 32,000 sales ahead of Goulding.

The full chart rundown is announced on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (March 8).
