Tyler, The Creator and Erykah Badu to star in Adult Swim cartoon special about police brutality

The hour-long episode of 'Black Dynamite' will air in January

The likes of Tyler, The Creator and Erykah Badu will make cameos in an upcoming episode of Adult Swim cartoon ‘Black Dynamite’.

The episode in question will air on January 10, 2015, with a hour-long special planned called ‘The Wizard of Watts’. The episode will focus on the subject of police brutality in the wake of civil unrest in the US.

“As a comedy writer, I feel it’s my job to make people laugh while using constructive social criticism to evoke thought and inspire dialogue,” said the episode’s director and co-writer Carl Jones.

As well as Badu and the Odd Future rapper, the episode will also star ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ actor J.B. Smoove and Tim Blake Nelson.

Meanwhile, Wu-Tang Clan‘s RZA recently spoke about racial injustice in America and revealed that the spot where Eric Garner was killed is right “on his doorstep”.

Speaking in the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, the rapper discussed the New York grand jury’s decision not to indict the Staten Island police officer caught on film fatally choking Garner, an unarmed black father-of-six who was suspected of selling untaxed cigarettes.

“I’m not a political person, I’m a spiritual person. But this shit happened on my doorstep outside a place where as a kid I used to get turkey sandwiches,” RZA said. “Me and my friends would do rap battles on the sidewalk right next to where it happened. Today is a sad day.”

RZA added that such injustices are “the entire reason why [the new Wu-Tang] album exists. A better tomorrow is what we all need to be working to make happen.”
