BBC Sound Of 2015 longlist unveiled

Slaves, Wolf Alice and Years & Years among bands on a list dominated by solo acts

The longlist for the BBC Music Sound Of 2015 poll has been revealed.

Among the 15 nominated acts are Slaves, who will appear on the NME Awards Tour with Austin, Texas next year, plus Wolf Alice and Sunset Sons.

Three of the nominees, George The Poet, James Bay and Years & Years are also nominated for the Brit Awards 2015 Critics’ Choice Award. BBC Sound Of 2014 winner Sam Smith also won the Critics’ Choice Award this year.

Grime MCs Stormzy and Novelist are in contention, as too are solo artists Raury, Shamir, Soak, Kwabs, Låpsley and Bombay Bicycle Club collaborator Rae Morris. In fact, 11 of the 15 artists nominated by a panel of 140 music industry experts are solo artists.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens said: “It’s always an exciting time of year to take stock and look at what might be making us dance, cry and jump for joy into the year ahead. I’m excited because there are a lot of artists I and my fellow DJs have supported on the list, and it’s another great chance to share the music we love with an even bigger audience.”

Previous winners of the BBC Sound poll have included Adele, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding. The winner of next year’s poll will be revealed on January 9.
