Soul singer Mavis Staples self-confirms Glastonbury performance

The only act to be officially announced for festival so far is Lionel Richie

Soul singer Mavis Staples has announced she will be performing at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

The news was revealed by Staples’ bandleader Rick Holmstrom on his website. The Worthy Farm appearance is included alongside shows in Liverpool, London and Cambridge. “Looks like we’ll be hitting more incredible locales in 2015. The Mavis Staples calender is filling up fast… Look forward to seeing you!” Holmstrom wrote.

Mavis Staples has released music both as a solo artist and with her families band The Staples Singers. The singer’s hit singles include ‘I’ll Take You There’, ‘Let’s Do It Again’, and ‘If You’re Ready (Come Go with Me)’.

The only act that has been officially announced for Glastonbury 2015 is Lionel Richie. The Dalai Lama recently announced a special appearance at the festival, but the post was later deleted.

Glastonbury festival takes place at Worthy Farm near Pilton, Somerset on June 24 – 28. Last week, details of the festival’s Emerging Talent Competition were announced. The winner of the annual contest wins a slot on one of the festival’s main stages, with unsigned acts invited to submit their music to a judging panel who will select a shortlist ahead of the event in June. They will also receive £5,000 in cash while two runners-up will be given £2,500 each.
