Midweek Chart Update: Ben Howard and Slipknot battle for Number One album

While Mike Read's 'UKIP Calypso' lands just outside the Top 20

Ben Howard and Slipknot are battling for the Number One position in this week’s Official UK Albums Chart.

The US band and British singer both released new albums this week with Slipknot’s ‘.5: ‘The Gray Chapter’ currently at Number Two, behind Ben Howard’s ‘Wonder Where We Are’ at today’s Midweek Update stage. The final chart placings will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 on Sunday (October 26).

Elsewhere in the Official Albums Chart, Neil Diamond and Status Quo are both new entries in the Top Five with their albums ‘Melody Road’ and ‘Aquostic (Stripped Bare)’ respectively.

There are a further eight new entries in the Official Chart Top 40 starting with Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Big Fat Lie’ (15). Elsewhere, new entries come from Mark Lanegan (16), Scott Walker and Sunn O))) (20), Billy Idol (23), Del Amitri (29), Bear’s Den (31), Half Man, Half Biscuit (39) and Aretha Franklin (40).

Meanwhile, Meghan Trainor’s reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart could come to an end with Waze & Odyssey’s ‘Bump & Grind 2014’ single new at Number Two.

The other new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage come from Fuse ODG (6), Taylor Swift (28), Hudson Taylor (29), Bondax (31) and Maroon 5 (37).

The Independents are potentially set to enter the Top 40 with political song ‘Ukip Calypso’ (21), which features former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read. However, earlier today Read called for the song to be removed from sale following complaints from some members of the public who feel that the song is racist.
