Mumford and Sons, Muse and Justin Timberlake to perform at Brit Awards tonight

Stars gear up for annual awards ceremony at London's O2 Arena

The 2013 Brit Awards are a matter of hours away with Muse and Mumford and Sons set to perform live at this year’s ceremony.

The awards, hosted for the third time in a row by comedian James Corden, will be broadcast live on ITV1 from 8pm. Performances from Taylor Swift, Ben Howard, One Direction, Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams will take place between awards with Emeli Sande set to close the show. Muse will open the show with the help of a 75-piece orchestra as they perform ‘Supremacy’.

Nominated artists on the night include Emeli Sande, Alt-J, Mumford and Sons, Rita Ora and Frank Ocean, who will all be battling it out to win multiple awards. The statue awarded to winners is, this year, designed by Damien Hirst, following in the footsteps of Vivenne Westwood and Sir Peter Blake, who had previously redesigned the award.

Alt-J have scored three nominations, including nods for Best British Group, Best British Album and British Breakthrough. Mumford & Sons are also tipped in the Best British Group category, as well as in the Best Live Act category and Best British Album category for their second LP, ‘Babel’. Muse scored nominations for Best British Group and Best Live Act while Amy Winehouse is up for a posthumous nomination in the Best British Female category alongside Paloma Faith, Jessie Ware, Bat For Lashes and Emeli Sande.

Meanwhile, Richard Hawley, Plan B, Calvin Harris, Ben Howard and Olly Murs will face off in the Best British Male category. Other notable nominations include Jake Bugg and Jessie Ware for British Breakthrough and The Black Keys and The Killers for Best International Group. Frank Ocean is up against Jack White and Bruce Springsteen for Best International Male, whilst Cat Power and Lana Del Rey are being tipped for Best International Female.

Despite only playing a handful of shows in 2012, The Rolling Stones are up for Best Live Act.
