Nicole Scherzinger to sing at Nelson Mandela’s funeral?

'X Factor' judge has reportedly met the late leader's daughters

Nicole Scherzinger has reportedly been lined up to perform at Nelson Mandela’s funeral.

According to a Sun On Sunday insider, the X Factor judge has had secret meetings with the late Mandela’s daughters at London’s Mandarin Hotel and have discussed a potential performance.

The source said: “‘During the chat Nicole had with the daughters it was mentioned she should sing at his funeral, or at least be a very prominent guest.” Scherzinger has once sang in front of Mandela, choosing to perform ‘Precious Lord’, his favourite hymn.

Mandela passed away at the age of 95 on December 5 at home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and in 1994 became the first black president of South Africa. An anti-apartheid activist, he was jailed from 1962 until 1990 for sabotage, becoming the world’s most famous political prisoner.

The 1984 song ‘Nelson Mandela’ was written by Jerry Dammers and performed by The Special AKA to protest against Mandela’s imprisonment by South Africa’s apartheid government. Amy Winehouse performed the song at Mandela’s 90th birthday concert at London’s Hyde Park in 2008.
