One of the organisers of the Reading and Leeds Festivals has said that an as-yet unnamed band will play a secret gig at this year’s event.
Jon McIldowie, who books the artists for the festival, spoke to XFM about this year’s festival and whether fans can expect to see any surprises over the weekend, similar to when Green Day played an unnanounced set on the NME Stage at Reading in 2012.
“We always get calls about a month before the festival from bands saying, ‘You know how we said we didn’t want to play your festival, well now we’re available and we really do,'” McIldowie said. “I’ve had about seven of those this year, including a couple from bands that are arena acts who want to do secret shows or do last-minute things.”
Quizzed on whether or not one of the acts who have contacted him will perform at the festival, he replied: “One of them will… It’s going to be a surprise.”
Paramore, Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys and Blink-182 will headline Reading and Leeds Festivals 2014, which takes place between August 22-24. It will be both Queens Of The Stone Age and Paramore’s only UK festival appearances of the summer.
Earlier this year it was announced that Gerard Way will play his first ever solo shows at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals. The former My Chemical Romance frontman will join The Horrors, Palma Violets, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Kooks, Twin Shadow, Lonely The Brave, Twin Atlantic and Mallory Knox on the bill.
