The Voice Mexico singer killed the day after Christina Grimmie’s funeral

Alejandro 'Jano' Fuentes was shot in a possible carjacking in Chicago

A contestant from The Voice Mexico has been killed one day after The Voice US singer Christina Grimmie‘s funeral.

Alejandro ‘Jano’ Fuentes, who was from Chicago but appeared on the Mexican version of the talent show in 2011, was shot in what is thought to have been a carjacking in his hometown.

The Guardian reports that 45-year-old Fuentes was ambushed while on a night out with friends, celebrating his birthday on Thursday (June 16).

Fuentes got in his car with his friends when an armed man ordered him to get out and shot him, according to police. He was shot in the head three times outside the Tras Bambalinas school on the south west side of Chicago.

He passed away on Saturday (June 18), the day after Grimmie’s funeral. Grimmie was shot while signing autographs after a concert in Orlando on June 10.

Television network WGN said police are investigating whether the shooting was an attempted carjacking or robbery. Fuentes’ friends held a vigil and memorial for the singer last night (June 18).
