Coldplay and music world pay tribute after death of murdered Labour MP Jo Cox

Politician was killed in Birstall, West Yorkshire on Thursday (June 16)

The music world has reacted to the death of Labour MP Jo Cox, who was killed in her constituency on Thursday (June 16).

Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen since May 2015, was murdered by a man in Birstall, West Yorkshire. An individual reportedly named Tommy Mair has been arrested for the crime. It has been reported that the attacker shouted “Britain first” as he shot and stabbed the politician, leading to speculation that the attack was motivated by right-wing politics.

Following the attack, Coldplay paid tribute to Cox at their London gig at Wembley Stadium, dedicating the song ‘Green Eyes’ to the late MP. Watch footage of that beneath.

Meanwhile, musicians ranging from Boy George and Charlotte Church to Stormzy and Lily Allen have paid tribute to Cox.

“Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jo Cox, horrible news,” grime artist Stormzy wrote on Twitter. Church said she was “devastated to hear” the news.
