Ricky Gervais reveals he has received ‘ridiculous offers’ to make David Brent album

Comedian claims major record companies are keen to release full album by 'The Office' character

Ricky Gervais has revealed that a number of major record labels have offered him the chance to record an album as his Office character David Brent .

Gervais claims that Brent, who was an aspiring musician in the BBC TV show, is wanted by labels who have made him “ridiculous offers”.

The comedian made the revelations on Twitter, writing: “I can’t believe I’m getting ridiculous offers from major record companies all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real popster? And starving?”

Gervais originally played Brent for two series of The Office and a two-part Christmas special. He recently brought the character back for a series of YouTube based guitar tutorials and a Comic Relief sketch, having already revived him in 2011 for a cameo in the US version of his hit show.

The online series, titled Learn Guitar with David Brent, marks the first time comedy fans have had chance to see Brent in a long-running series since the original British version of The Office ended in 2003. David Brent was known for his love of playing the acoustic guitar, but not his musical talent, and his signature song ‘Free Love Freeway’ has become something of an anti-classic.
