Surround Festival cancelled after worker killed in forklift truck accident

The event was due to take place on Saturday (August 16)

Surround Festival in Gloucestershire has been cancelled after a man working on the site was killed in a forklift truck accident on Thursday (August 14).

The 33-year-old was helping construct the site at Sallywood Farm in Horsley, where fire engines and an ambulance were called to the accident around midday on Thursday.

The festival – which had nearly sold out its 500-capacity ticket limit – has since been cancelled by the organisers, with ticket holders able to claim a full refund.

A statement on the festival’s website reads as follows:

“It is with great sadness that we have to announce Surround Festival 2014 will be cancelled.

This morning on site there was a tragic incident and this has resulted in one of the team members we were working alongside passing away.

The incident involved someone highly experienced in their role, operating equipment they were fully trained to use. It was an exceptionally unfortunate accident.

Our thoughts are with their friends and family at this difficult time, and we are working closely with local authorities.

The incident is being treated as an industrial accident and investigated by Stroud District Council, the Health and Safety Executive and the police.
