No Devotion: ‘We will never play Lostprophets songs again’

The new band embark on a short UK tour this month

No Devotion, the new band formed by ex-members of Lostprophets, have said they will never play the music they made with Ian Watkins again.

Speaking in this week’s issue of NME, which is on newsstands and available digitally now, guitarist Lee Gaze commented on Lostprophets material, saying: “We’d definitely never play the songs again… I don’t think we’d ever revisit anything.”

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was arrested in 2012, and later pleaded guilty to 13 charges including the attempted rape and sexual assault of a child.

He was subsequently sentenced to 29 years in prison. His former bandmates announced their split in October last year, before the end of Watkins’ trial. They formed No Devotion earlier this year, and have recruited former Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly as singer.

“I wasn’t sure about it because I wasn’t a big fan of Thursday,” said Gaze to NME. “But he went to [bassist] Stu [Richardson]’s house and laid down some vocals on a track. They sent it over and I thought, ‘Well, from now on I’ll just sit down and shut my mouth.’ It was really great.”

No Devotion are set to release their debut album in early 2015. They embark on a short tour of the UK later this month, starting at Cardiff SU on July 22, then playing Manchester Sound Control on July 23, London O2 Academy Islington on July 25 and Glasgow ABC on July 26. They recently released their debut single ‘Stay’.
