Rapper and Source founder Benzino in critical condition after shooting

Benzino's nephew Gai Scott arrested after shooting at funeral in Massachusetts

Rapper Benzino, the former co-owner of hip hop magazine The Source, is in a critical condition after he was shot while attending his mother’s funeral in Massachusetts.

Benzino’s nephew Gai Scott has been charged with armed assault and attempt to murder. He will appear in court tomorrow (March 31).

A former member of Made Men and Almighty RSO, Benzino helped found hip-hop magazine The Source, but quit in 2005 after a series of disputes, including his role in The Source’s long-running feud with Eminem. On his departure, he accoused hip-hop of “losing its edge”. He has released four solo albums, most recently ‘The Antidote’ in 2007 and appeared on US reality TV show [i[Love And Hip-Hop: Atlanta[/i].

According to sources quoted by local Boston TV channel WHDH-TV, Gai Scott’s Bentley pulled up alongside Benzino’s Dodge SUV and fired multiple shots. According to a statement, Benzino’s family and friends, including his fiancée Althea Heart, are keeping vigil in hospital.
