The former 'The Voice' contestant was shot outside an Orlando concert last night (June 10)
Police have released further details about the man who shot and killed singer Christina Grimmie outside an Orlando, Florida venue last night (June 10).
The former The Voice US contestant had been singing autographs outside the Plaza Live following a performance with band Before You Exit when a man pulled two guns and shot her.
In a press conference today (June 11), Orlando Police Chief John Mina said the gunman had travelled from another city in Florida to see Grimmie. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, he said the suspect didn’t appear to know the singer personally and could have been a fan.
Mina confirmed the gunman’s motive was still unknown. His identity has also to be revealed to the public, but it has been confirmed that he shot and killed himself after shooting Grimmie.
Grimmie appeared on The Voice US in 2014, when she finished third in the competition under the mentorship of Maroon 5‘s frontman Adam Levine.
Via the @NBCTheVoice Twitter handle, representatives of the show tweeted, “We are heartbroken. @TheRealGrimmie is a loved member of our family. Our thoughts are with her and her family. #PrayForChristina” and “There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice. Our hearts go out to the friends, fans and family of @TheRealGrimmie.”
Levine posted an old photo of him and the late Grimmie on Instagram, writing: “I’m sad, shocked and confused. We love you so much Grimmie. We are all praying hard that you can pull through this…this just isn’t fair.”
