Nick Grimshaw to host the Barclaycard Mercury Prize

Radio 1 Breakfast Show host replaces Lauren Laverne as presenter

Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter Nick Grimshaw has been named as the new host of Channel 4’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize coverage.

Grimshaw replaces Lauren Laverne, who had presented the previous two years’ coverage. Laverne replaced longtime host Jools Holland when Channel 4 took over presenting the ceremony from BBC2 in 2012.

Grimshaw said: “It’s a real honour to host the Barclaycard Mercury Prize awards show, which celebrates the best British talent that we have to offer. I think it’s a really interesting, exciting and pretty perfect shortlist.” He has previously presented backstage interviews with nominees as part of Channel 4‘s coverage of the prize.

During 2013’s awards, Laverne accidentally called eventual winner James Blake “James Blunt”. Blunt responded on Twitter: “So did I win?” This year’s prize will be presented at London’s Roundhouse on October 29.
