A stock delay has hit music retailers ahead of Christmas.
Arvato, who distribute music for Universal Music, Warner Music, Sony Music, [PIAS] and more, have apologised for their current backlog of orders, writes Music Week. Though the company normally has a 24-hour turnaround policy, some retailers are reportedly having to wait 4-5 days for orders to come through. Retailers such as HMV and Amazon, as well as independent stores, all rely on Arvato for stock.
Speaking to Music Week, an Arvato spokesperson apologised for the delay: “We’d like to apologise to anyone who has been affected by a delay in receiving their stock and can assure them that we’re doing everything we can to rectify the situation as soon as possible.”
An anonymous Arvato client has contacted Music Week with more information on the situation, commenting: “Arvato has severely underestimated the amount of orders and the change from bulk ordering on a few lines to singles over more lines. Some shops are waiting on orders from around the 20th November. [Arvato] appears to have completely underestimated how busy Christmas would be – especially with vinyl sales, which face the longest delays.”
