David Letterman demands an encore from The Orwells on the ‘Late Show’

The Chicago band played a rowdy version of 'Who Needs You'

David Letterman demanded an encore from The Orwells on the Late Show when the band appeared on the programme earlier this week.

Click above to watch the band’s incendiary performance of ‘Who Needs You’. After they performed, Letterman demanded that the Chicago band play some more. However, guitarist Matt O’Keefe had broken the strings on his guitar, so they couldn’t continue.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the incident, O’Keefe commented: “I think we were like, if we played again, what version is gonna get used on TV? We’d rather just give ’em one version. We didn’t want to play it again… By the end of it, I’d literally broken every string on my guitar. I physically could not play the song again. We felt like, ‘That was the one we gave you,’ and like we were getting led into giving a more “perfect” performance. We did not want to do that.”

The Orwells will tour the UK next month, including a sold out NME Awards show at London’s 100 Club on February 24. They play:
