Pair admit they can't believe 'Let's Get Ready To Rhumble' is on course to top UK official Singles Chart
Ant and Dec have admitted their return as PJ & Duncan was a “joke”.
The pair said they never expected their 1994 hit ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble’ to be catapulted back into the charts after last week’s Saturday Night Takeaway performance. Ant told ITV’s Daybreak: “It was just a joke. We were fans of The Big Reunion anyway, so we were going to do something with them at the end of the show. And then we realised that we didn’t kind of have enough to fill what the end of the show normally runs to.
“And we thought well, we could possibly dust off the old baseball caps and give it a go for a laugh. And the production team on Saturday Night Takeaway went mad, saying, ‘We remember that song, let’s do it!’ So we thought it would be a bit of a laugh then, we’ll do it. We never expected we would be Number One in the midweek charts.”
The TV presenters returned to their roots as the Byker Grove characters alongside fellow ’90s pop acts 5ive, Atomic Kitten and Blue during their primetime variety show. The reunited popstars were on the show to promote their ITV2 show The Big Reunion. You can see footage of the performance below, now. The song is on course to top the official UK Singles Chart this weekend. Check back on NME.COM this Sunday (March 31) to see if PJ & Duncan hit the Number One spot.
