Spotify have released a countdown of the top 25 most streamed artists under 25 years old.
Avicci’s single ‘Wake Me Up’ has been reported as Spotify’s most streamed song ever after just sixth months after being released, having garnered over 243 million plays on the music streaming service.
Consequently, the Swedish EDM-megastar tops the streaming service’s annual list, to be crowned the “most influential” young musician. Lorde, Miley Cyrus, One Direction and Taylor Swift make up the rest of the top five respectively.
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea takes the number ten spot ahead of Justin Bieber, after she recently held the number one and two spots on the US Billboard chart with the single ‘Fancy’ and a guest spot on Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem’, the first musician to do so since The Beatles. Ariana Grande also features on the list, landing at number seven.
British artists such as Rita Ora, Sam Smith, 18-year-old singer-songwriter Birdy, Disclosure and Jake Bugg sit at numbers nine, 12, 13, 20 and 22 respectively, representing UK hopes in the chart.
