George Shelley accuses bandmates of jealousy after being ‘kicked out of’ Union J

'X Factor' band have parted ways with 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!' runner-up

George Shelley has been kicked out of Union J, a claim he has publicly denied.

Shelley has been a part of the group since they formed in the 2012 series of The X Factor. However, this morning his bandmates Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley told The Sun that they had sacked him after he refused to commit himself to the group.

After finishing as a runner-up on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in December, Shelley has pursued other broadcasting opportunities and now features on the Capital FM Breakfast Show. He was praised for opening up about having had relationships with both men and women after his I’m A Celebrity… appearance.

The boy band told The Sun that they gave Shelley a final ultimatum by email and called the situation “heartbreaking”. Josh Cuthbert said: “He did the jungle, he came off it and his head space was different to ours. Using a sporting analogy, he wanted to turn up to the big matches but not turn up to training.”

He then shared another explanation to fans on Twitter:

However, a spokesman for George Shelley said his exit was a “mutual decision” and accused the other members of being jealous.

The spokesman said: “It was a mutual decision for George to leave Union J so he could focus on his broadcasting and acting career.

“He is an utterly charming and hardworking individual – not a diva in the slightest. The fact of the matter is that the other members of Union J are simply jealous he has achieved the start of an exciting new career and they have not.

“George had agreed to be totally magnanimous towards them, but unfortunately this has not been reciprocated.”

Shelley has also tweeted about his surprise at his former bandmate’s claims this morning:

Union J will replace Shelley with a new fourth member later this month.
