Bestival announces 2014 festival theme

The 2014 event will be 'Desert Island Disco' themed

Bestival has announced its fancy dress plans for 2014.

This year the Isle of Wight event will stage a tropical ‘Desert Island Disco’ theme, following 2013’s nautical ‘HMS Bestival’ theme. Bestival will take place from September 4-7. For more information, visit Bestival have released a statement regarding ‘Desert Island Disco’, which sees the ship ‘launched’ at last year’s event “roaming the seas of the world” before it comes to a desert island. It continues:

“Looking through his telescope, the look-out frowns confused. There, through the palms fringing the beach, in a clearing; a stone temple, and teems of bamboo and palm roofed shacks. He hears the distant sound of drums on the breeze and sees tiny tribes people moving and shaking. And there, in the middle of it all, the source of his confusion, is a giant bloody disco ball.”

Elton John headlined the final night of Bestival 2013 with a greatest hits set which marked his first UK festival appearance in over 30 years. “I haven’t played a UK festival since 1979 – I decided to play this one because I was told what a brilliant festival it was,” John told the crowd.

Other acts to appear at last year’s event included MIA, Snoop Dogg, Franz Ferdinand, Swim Deep, Merchandise, Chic, James Blake, Peace, The Roots, Jessie Ware, Bombay Bicycle Club and Drenge.
