Rudimental revealed as Latitude special guests

The dance act will appear at 6.45pm tonight (July 18) on the Obelisk Arena stage

Rudimental will play a special set at Latitude festival later today (July 18).

The band have been added to the bill as ‘special guests’, playing at 6.45pm on the Obelisk Arena stage. In a statement, the band said: “We’re so excited to be heading back to Latitude Festival again this year. We’ve had such amazing experiences there in the past, so it’s been hard keeping this one to ourselves!”

The news follows Lily Allen‘s announcement as a last-minute headliner at the event tongiht, after she replaced Two Door Cinema Club, whose frontman Alex Trimble has fallen ill and is recuperating in hospital.

Allen yesterday said that she was too “exhausted by nastiness” to tolerate negative messages she was receiving from Twitter users upset at her replacing the band as Latitude Festival headliner. Allen tweeted about the “rude” messages she was receiving online following the change in headliner.

“If you’re going to be rude about my replacing @TDCinemaClub on here, can you just un @ me please?” she tweeted. “I’m so exhausted by the nastiness. I understand that you’re disappointed but I don’t think that warrants abuse. They asked, I accepted, I will give it my all, + hope you enjoy.”

Talking about the change at the top of the bill, Latitude’s Managing Director of the event’s organisers Festival Republic, Melvin Benn, said: “We are honoured that Lily Allen is able to step in at the last minute and would like to thank her for filling the headline slot. After her show-stopping performance at Glastonbury, Lily was a natural choice, the Latitude audience are in for something really spectacular.”

Latitude 2014 takes place this weekend (July 17-20) at Henham Park in Southwold, Suffolk. Fellow headliners The Black Keys and Damon Albarn will perform on Saturday and Sunday night of Latitude as planned.
