Varg Vikernes to crowdfund lawsuit against French authorities following massacre plot arrest

Burzum frontman was arrested and released without charge in July

Burzum frontman Varg Vikernes has asked his fans to help him fund a lawsuit against the French authorities after they arrested him on suspicion of plotting a massacre earlier this year.

Vikernes and his wife Marie Cachet were released from jail in France following their arrest earlier this year. He will return to court in the near future over a breach of French racism laws, which the self-confessed Neo-Nazi sympathiser is accused of violating on his blog.

In a fresh update posted on August 7, Vikernes states that his family were innocent and that police also confiscated weapons, swords and ammunition from the property. He also alleges that the police froze the family’s bank accounts and that his children have been placed in the custody of their grandparents.

An extract from the blog reads: “We want to sue the authorities for arresting us for no good reason whatsoever, doing so in the most brutal way possible and with children present, and also for without any reason taking away our right to own or even possess weapons. I ask you all to help us speak up for our rights and freedom, and for the rights and freedom of all others too. Before it is too late.”

The black metal singer was arrested on July 16 at his farm in Salon-La Tour in central France, where he lives with his wife and three children. Authorities reportedly grew suspicious when Varg’s wife purchased four firearms, with a permit. The arrest was made by the French government’s Central Directorate of Internal Intelligence, which revealed to the media that it suspected Vikernes of “plotting a massacre”.

Vikernes, a self-confessed Neo-Nazi sympathiser, has previously spent 15 years of a 21-year sentence in prison in Norway for the murder of Øystein Aarseth, known as Euronymous, guitarist of black metal band Mayhem.

Vikernes was released in 2009 but was convicted of four counts of arson on churches in the same year.
